Finally summer has arrived at The Poor Knights Islands, the Stingrays are swarming and we still have a few spaces on some trips over the coming weeks. So if you fancy a few days diving check out the dates where we have spaces:

We've tried to run 'The North Trip' a few times now, but this year is going to be the one! A rough itinerary has been put together and it looks pretty exciting. The dates have changed slightly, but it's still at the end of February and Mary's already signed up for it. So, that means there are only 5 spots available and you don't want to be hearing tales when you could be living them.......

As spring turns into summer, the water warms, the salp thickens and the fish go crazy. All the while the walls are being invaded by an increasing number of Nudibranchs.....

Winter came to an end, daylight saving came back to brighten our evenings and The Poor Knights has had another spectacular months diving.

The water may still be 15C, but there is a hint of Spring at The Poor Knights Marine Reserve.

The storms of June passed and July brought some more settled weather and some more fantastic winter diving.

June has thrown up a few wet and wild weekends, but there's been some diving going on.

Winter is barely here, but we are already looking ahead to Summer 2011-2012.

The first weekend of the 10*10*10 Challenge was a great success with 4 divers (well 5 including Mel) completing 5 of the challenge sites!

I think the trip last weekend and four days away marks the end of another Summer Season! However, there's more to life than Summer 2010/11.....

As my mum used to say: "April, April, Der weiss nicht was Er will!", which is German and translates to....

The guys (plus Mary) decided to take their annual 7 day trip to The Poor Knights in March to enjoy the warmer water. There was a bit of wind and some monster swell, but also some amazing diving.

Oceanblue and TechdiveNZ have teamed up to bring you a diving challenge/adventure for the winter months. If you fancy diving between May and October then this could be for you.....

The morning after one of the recent natural disasters is always a sombre affair - 1000s of people are affected and most of us share their sorrow in some or another. Due to a couple of illnesses we only had 2 people on the trip, so do we go out? The decision was Yes. We timed our departure between two surges in Tutukaka Marina (a couple of poles got ripped out and there was some minor damage to some boats - as Herbie said, "If that's the worst we get, then sign me up now"). We did nothing brave, special or in any way amazing, just went about our business to enjoy a weekend diving away from the troubles of the world.

Due to an illness there has been a last minute cancellation for the weekend trip heading out on the 12th March.

After a few days diving as a combined group, Team B (for better, in their words!!) boarded Mazurka for the second eight day trip. Lucy, Jen, Kim, Gail and Peter set off on Friday to explore The Poor Knights.

Last year Chris, Lucy and Corrinna from the Australian National University Dive club came to The Poor Knights and loved it so much they told their friends. This year eleven of them have come over for 2 trips of 8 days each. This was Chris' trip......

Another Cyclone (Wilma) unleashed some devastation on Tonga and then made its way to New Zealand, dumping a record amount of rain in its wake. We did, however, manage to get to The Poor Knights for some great diving...

Northland and Tutukaka have been pounded by a couple of storms, but hopefully they've brought in some blue water from the Tropics. The rest of summer scuba diving beckons....

The Xmas and New Year period gave us some weird weather, strange visibility and some great diving at The Poor Knights Islands.

Due to a last minute change we now have some spaces on the trip departing 12th January 2011.

At this time of year there seems to be a congregation of Stingrays at Tie-Dye Arch - this year didn't disappoint! The Poor Knights Islands are in full summer activity.

The Poor Knights are making the final switch to summer. The sea of Salps is slowly dying and the water is warming.

Spring in full bloom at The Poor Knights and everything is in place for an outstanding season.

Daylight saving has started, so summer is well on the way. Springtime has seen plenty of action at The Poor Knights, including Dolphins, Seals and the odd Hammerhead.

September has come and brought along some Springtime Knight delights.

Last year we were treated to some amazing Orca action and this year we have a few spaces available on some 3 day trips in September.

It's July and winter, but that didn't stop us heading out for a 3 day trip to explore the Poor Knights Winter Wonderland...

A couple of storms loomed over Northland, but a window opened for a couple of days and we took the opportunity to dive The Poor Knights for one last summer weekend.

Well, Rachael and Ben (our competition winners) joined us on our Entirely World Famous Tour event with Nicquel and we discovered The Poor Knights.

No, not a new rugby event, but 7 days out at The Poor Knights with seven photographers snapping away.

The Poor Knights Wonderland truly lived up to its name over Easter with some spectacular sights.

Due to an achilles injury there is a space available on this week long trip to The Poor Knights. A great opportunity for any photographers out there.

It's been a little while since we've got a dive in at The Pinnacles and are the sharks just teasing us?

On the last dive of our 2 day midweek trip we saw Dizzy (the 3 flipper turtle) at the entrance to Rikoriko.

February saw the long awaited warm water arrive and temps rise to 21 and ended with a Tsunami and an old friend...

The first Oceanblue/TechDiveNZ liveaboard cavern course extravaganza was held last weekend and is an immediate hit with the students.

It seems that The Poor Knights are becoming home to more and more Nudibranchs.

4 days of diving saw us saying farewell to 2009. Bring on 2010 at The Poor Knights...

The pre-Xmas trip was notable for many things, but one dive in particular....

Around the same time last year Tie-Dye Arch (at The Pinnacles) was home to 20 or so Stingrays! They've come back, so get yourselves over there and check them out.

December is looking pretty busy and we had two 3 day trips almost back to back and there was plenty to see.

Due to last minute cancellation we have 2 spaces on the trip tomorrow 9th to 11th December.

It's taken most of the winter, but finally completed Tim's Advanved course and a Cavern Course for someone too....

When I first came to The Poor Knights I thought that Jason's Mirabilis were are common sight - then they were gone with only the odd sighting!? Well, they are BACK......

The Labour Day weekend weather is actually looking good - hurrah!

Well, due to the small weather 'blip' the 4 day trip has now changed to be a 2 day trip on Sunday 11th and Monday 12th October. 2 days, 6 dives only $360 per person....

Acknowledging our roots in the dive industry we'd like to send our condolences to Mike's family and friends on his passing away.

Well, I never thought I'd be saying it, but we saw about 4 Hammerheads out at The Poor Knights over the last weekend!!

As the forecast is so good we're going out this weekend 19th-20th September. Come along and catch the Hammerheads!!!!

A weekend trip out to The Knights saw some Spring like action.

The first 4 day trip of the season is departing on the 9th October - catch all the action.

A few spaces available on the 22nd August for a weekend trip.

Spent 6 days out at the Knights for some great winter diving. Schools of Pink & Blue Maomao, Koheru, Kingfish, Snapper and quite a few Sharks all combined with a near incident made for an exciting time.

Finally after 3 years of diving the Knights I had a real encounter with some Bronze Whalers :D

In case you can't find enough friends for a full boat we have a 1/2 boat special - only $999 for 2 days.

Hire the whole boat for only $880 per day - for 2 or more days from 1st June to 31st October.

The long weekend gave us 3 days to savour the diving out at the Knights. With heaps of action it was great diving all over.

WOW - some amazing diving over the longest day weekend. Schools of Maomao, Trevally and Stingrays everywhere in Tie Dye Arch.

Looking at taking an extended trip up the coast to check out the Canterbury and maybe head on to the Rainbow Warrior.

We have some spaces free on our 3 day pre Christmas trip - Departing Saturday 20th and returning Monday 21st.

Wow! The water has warmed up to 18 degrees and there is life everywhere at the Knights.

Well, daylight savings has begun and this traditionally is the beginning of summer. The weather didn't let us down and we got a great trip in over the daylight savings weekend.

It's taken nearly the whole season, but got to dive Cave Bay wall on the week long trip and had a great time.

Well, it's been a windy old summer - not forgetting the swell!! We've managed a few trips though and after this weekends blast from above have a 2 dayer departing on Tuesday :)

Janine has run her first PADI Instructor Development Course here in New Zealand and all the students passed with flying colours :)

Not just the oceans, but also an update for the first time in a while, due to moving house and being off-line for nearly 2 months. We have, however, been out and are geared up for the season.....

We returned to Tutukaka late afternoon Friday 10 August after a week out at the Poor Knights and given the weather we have had of late, I was well surprised that we’d been able to stay out for so long and with so much sun!

The weather hasn't been conducive to diving recently, but a small window of opportunity came around at the weekend and we headed out for an overnight adventure.

Came across a lonely Roboastra perched on Trev's Rock and wondered, 'Will this be the last one I see this season?'

The water is still around 19 degrees and there's plenty of life out at the Knights - the stingrays are cruising around, John Dory are patrolling the sand and Nudibranchs cover the walls.

A busy April was concluded by a 7 day trip out to the Knights. The guys have been coming for over 30 years and had another great trip.

What with evacuation of Whangarei's CBD for flooding and an expected Tsunami it's been quite a week in Northland, but the diving started as soon as the weather eased.

A great 4 day trip out to the Chicks began with us being intercepted by 2 pods of Dolphins!!

Out in the sand by Magic Wall there were plenty of Stingrays - among them a pair mating!!

It seems that it is the breeding season for Tambja Morosa Nudibranchs out at the Knights.

Spent a fantastic 3 days out at the Knights filming a documentary about stingrays for Brazilian TV.

Blimey, two days and we saw (more or less) all the 'common' varieties of Nudis found at the Knights.

A few weeks of Easterly swell and wind hasn't been too much fun, but it has finally brought in the warmer, clearer Bluewater!

A variety of sites covering the Mokohinaus, Chicks and Poor Knights with the added bonus of some Mammals on route.

A strong current was ripping through Tie-Dye Arch at the Pinnacles, but what a dive :)

Can't remember the last dive where there wasn't a ray of some sort swimming around us. Still to come across the mass stacking, but we are patient.

So, 2007 is here and the diving enters the full force of summer - water getting warmer and fishes doing their thing!!

Not a bad present - the visibility is well over 20m and the fish life is abundant.

Wowser, a turtle diving down in Middle Arch - a rare treat indeed!!

Spotted a Sunfish on our way back the other weekend - surely that means that the summer dive season has started.

Found a dead Shearwater on the deck one morning (obviously flew into the boat at night) and then had an unexpected dinner guest one evening as another shearwater checked out what was being served, but turned his nose up at steak!!!

A bit of impromptu crew training as my undersuit caught a gust of wind, dived overboard and started swimming towards Chile!

A group of us (Mary, Herbert, Noel, Jo, Kent and myself) headed over to the Knights and had a great dive at Northern Arch.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Des McAllister, skipper, diver, Whangaruru coastguard member and friend to many.

We spent 3 days out at Ocean Beach acting as support for a film crew recreating an incident where some dolphins protected some swimmers from a shark.

A very pleasant weekend's diving saw the seasons first BBQ and various dive sites on the east side of the Islands.

The abundance of blue bell tunicates, daylight saving and Labour day weekend herald the arrival of the new dive season.
