The morning after.
Camille had only done a few dives, David (her partner) had done quite a few more, so we decided on a gentle cruisy weekend. The Poor Knights are known for their steep and deep walls, but there's also plenty to do in less than 20m too. The area around Meditation Wall is always full of life - Snapper, Sandagger and Big Eye gather in their own areas in large numbers. In Nursery Cove Bluefish dart back and forth and Ratty Kingfish 'yawn' in mid water (maybe bored by the ease of feeding). Back to the Gardens for the evening for dinner under the stars and the schooling Trevally crackling away all night.
The next morning Magic Wall seemed like the place to go - an odd current maybe, but worth diving for the Longtail Stingrays, back in good numbers in an area where they were always to be found. We popped round to Crystal Cave for the next dive and witnessed some weird surge and current - little standing waves in the bay, surrounded by still, calm waters!! The bay itself was stuffed full of Trevally feeding at the surface and even their Kingfish cousins seemed to be joining in the action. Under the surface was a gain a fish soup scene with huge Snapper, Mosaic Morays, Trevally and even a 1.5m Kingfish hanging by the cave entrance - so many fish it was dark underneath them!
Not the most hectic weekend diving, but a fantastic get away from the woes of the world.
