Santa brought the vis back
Covered a lot of ground on the 4 day trip although the wind was not playing ball for the first day. The entrance to Blue Maomao Arch was teeming with life. Stingrays were patrolling the area and the Maomao were coming and going in and out of the archway. The morays were being very friendly, a Mosaic and speckled sharing the same rock. A carpet shark joined the action to make for a great diving experience.
Northern Arch had a bit of a current, which held the golden snapper in mid water quite beautifully. Pink Maomao added a splash of extra colour and the walls were covered in life, including the usual array of Nudis. Cream Gardens didn't throw us any bronzies, but again plenty of rays and some monster snapper - the wall was also spectacular with the sun streaming down from above.
Away from the main islands we ventured into Tie-Dye Arch, which was also full of fish life. A solitary John Dory was hanging around the far side and some huge Blue Moki were looking like they owned the place. Along the wall a large Cray sat in a crack and watched the world (and the divers) go by. Hanging at 5m outside the arch made for a perfect safety stop. The last dive was at Sugarloaf and although the deep didn't produce a shark fest, the alleyway at 15m was stuffed full of stingrays. Half way through the dive a shadow loomed overhead and a ray cruised over my head.
The water was a constant 18 degrees and the visibilty 20m all over the islands.
