A New Year
We went to Nursery Cove for someone to get a nice refresher dive after a bit of a break, but there was a slight flaw in our plan - the sandy patch at 6m was covered in Stingrays (5 males queuing around a female by all counts!!). A solitary ray sat in the deeper sand, maybe waiting his turn!?
Middle and Northern Arch were full of fish as you'd expect, but the stack of rays hasn't quite made it yet. At the entrance to Kev's cave a carpet shark was cruising the wall - seems so long ago that they were all just lazing on the sea bed. At the back of the grotto the Waratah Anemones are still clinging to the rocks at about 1m.
The Demoiselles of Long Cave were out on the wall feeding on the jelly fish as they were outside Blue Maomao. A giant Salp (3m plus) somehow avoided the attention of the Leather Jackets and the Blue Maomao crammed the arch from floor to ceiling. As we cruised by Middle Arch we spotted another Sunfish, but couldn't slow down quickly enough to catch a good look at it before diving to the deep.
Water still 18 degrees and clear to about 20m
