Mok's, Chicks and Knights
During the steam from Tuts to the Mok's we were intercepted by some False Killer Whales, who hung around for 10 minutes or so, and then a pod of bottlenose dolphins played by the side of the boat. Managed to snap one in full flight:
The Mokohinau Islands provide a slightly different environment to that of the Knights, with longer kelp and more lobsters! The scenery is wonderful when the sun is shinning down on the islands. The Chick are slightly different again with some huge rock formations under the water as well as sandy channels more often seen along the coast. We had spotted a few free-divers (there was a competition going on) on a pinnacle just off Coppermine Island, so we decided to dive it in the morning. Took us a while to find it, but the dive was pretty special.
Back up to the Knights and Blue Maomao Arch was full of the said Blue fish. The morning dive on Fred's Pinnacle saw a large school of Pink Maomao, but still no sharks. Long Cave and Mineshaft Cave finished off the trip and there are still plenty of rays lurking around.
Visibility still variable around 15m and a few thermoclines add a chill to dives below 20m.
