Spent a fantastic 3 days out at the Knights filming a documentary about stingrays for Brazilian TV.

The first day started slowly checking out Middle & Northern Arches with limited success - to be fair we did see some rays in Northern Arch for the first time in ages (plenty of other fish action btw) and Middle Arch had a good range of Porae, Kingfish and Stingrays cruising around (sadly the Mantas have gone). Crynoid cliff provided an array of Nudibranchs, schooling Koheru and a few more rays.

An early morning start saw us head over to Sugarloaf to see if we could find some larger numbers. We weren't to be disappointed!  The film guys headed off to the point to check out if any pelagics were visiting. We opted for Stingray alley to hang with the rays - after making our way along the wall a small crack on the right signaled the entrance to Stingray Alley. Slowly working our way into the first opening and a few rays came to greet us. Over the next ledge and into the 'Lost City of the Rays' - in front of us, behind, overhead, underneath, everywhere!! The bowl at the end of the crack has rays looping up 'n' over and entering from behind and the right. The film guys had spotted some rays on the other side of the crack 'climbing' the walls and had filmed them going over the top. Over to the Pinnacles for some shelter and brunch. Tye-Dye Arch didn't have many rays around, but was stuffed full of other great fish. When a big Snapper is dwarfed by a Kingfish you know it's a BIG Kingy - and there were 2 of them just circling around. Pink and Blue Maomao mingled with the Porae, Snapper and Kingies all back-lit with the 3 entrances to the archway - Fabulous!! A circumnavigation of Scary Deep provided a spectacular dive, but alas the hunt for pelagics again proved fruitless :(

Next morning a tour round magic wall provided the guys with the macro shots they needed of the 3 species of rays found at the Knights. Meanwhile we swam round Ngaio Rock and joined the Snapper peering out over the blue. The visibility was amazing and soon the rest of the Tuts flotilla came to join us - just as we departed after breakfast for Sugarloaf. This time the guys sat in the 'City' and were swarmed by 50+ of their target. Meanwhile, over at the SW point we were being surrounded by 100 Kingfish - first a couple come to check us out and then the rest of the school come to play.

A fantastic 3 days and the guys got some amazing shots - we look forward to seeing the shots via Brazilian TV!!!!!
