Chicks, Kings and Dolphins
A large pod of common bottle-nose dolphins played in the bow wave for ages while another pod of spinners were rounding up some fish just off the starboard bow! We were on out way to the Hen & Chicks for a quick visit. We manged to dive Coppermine and the Reef (we call it Freediver) where the vis was pretty good - plenty of Kingys and a school of Golden Snapper were hanging around a pinnacle. A night dive in Boulder Bay saw some Crays wondering around the sea floor - the Wellingtonians were so confused they didn't know what to do :) A dive in West Cove in the morning was a nice spot and a large ray circling round under the boat.
The journey back to the Knights was interesting, but we arrived to the sight of most boats on their way home - we get the area to ourselves most nights! After a couple of dives and dinner we slept soundly and started the next day at Taravana Cave - great vis, fish everywhere and rays silhouetted in the blue made for a fantastic dive. Middle Arch was even better with a huge school of Kingfish (100+) hanging out at the point and a female stingray circling inside Bernie's Cave. Another night dive, this time in Big \Eye Cave, ended the day with heaps of Morays.
An evening in Rikoriko meant we had an early morning dive heading into the blue of the open water - leaving the barren cave floor and being greeted by the spectacular wall back-lit by the blue of the sea is an amazing sight. The banded Shrimp and Boarfish were again in the area, along with the Morosa and other Nudis.
A great 4 days with temperatures around 18-20 degrees and vis 15-25m.
