Northland's Civil Defence
The thing most of note underwater was the abundance of Mosaic Morays around the Knights - not 100s of them by any means, but at least a dozen were sighted over 4 days. Crynoid Cliff was home to at least 3 of them just lazing around in the cracks and they were joined by a few Speckled Morays.
We were thinking of trying to rename the area as Macro Warehouse as you could spend hours with the camera just in a couple of places. Tambja Morosa, Verconis, Thinstripe and Green were all seen in abundance and were accompanied by some elusive Roboastra Luteolineata along with a few Variables. Meanwhile, behind us there were plenty of Rays cruising over the kelp and over the sand. A school of 20+ Kingys patrolled the sand line just to add a bit of menace to the site!!
Magic Wall was again the area to see large numbers of Rays - we did a night dive there and disturbed the sleep of a couple of short-tails. Ann's Rock was home to a huge Cray, while Landing Bay Pinnacle had a nice school of Pink Maomao hanging above the Landing strip. Northern and Middle Arch were their usual busy selves and Trev's Rock was home to yet another Mosaic hiding in the swim-through.
Water temp still hovering around 19 degrees and Vis took a bit of a beating thanks to the extreme rainfall, but should clear back to 20m again in a few days.
