A week at the Knights
Sadly the persistent easterly swell meant that we only managed to do one dive on the Eastern side, at Cream Gardens - where a shark was spotted!!
The week started at Tie-Dye Arch, which was stuffed full of fish - Golden Snapper, Kingfish, Demoiselles and Porae making up most of the numbers. We managed to avoid Maroro Bay to a larger degree and had some fantastic dives on the Western side. From Northern Arch to Crinoid Cliff, we covered the sites and saw an array of life. Northern Arch was the least busy of the archways, but with good visibility provided a scenic dive and the small school of Boarfish was a pleasant surprise.
Outside of Bernie's Cave were a huge school of Demoiselles - unsure whether to go into Middle Arch or not. On the wall were a few Roboastra Nudibranchs and on the night dive an array of Janolus Ignis. Still plenty of rays cruising around and a couple of larger Kingfish patrolled the waters near the archway. Down on Boarfish Reef there were a couple of Mottled Morays as well as a Mosaic - made for a very pleasant dive with a variety of terrains at different depths.
Crinoid Cliff was, again, a festival for Macro photography with most Nudibranchs and morays in a small area. A dive near Packhorse Bay revealed a load of Diadema Palmeri on the sand line. On the sand in one of the side passages was a ray having a rest. Upon inspection we saw that it was a pregnant female - maybe the product of the 'action' we witnessed at Magic Wall all those months ago??
We finished the Knights diving at The Canyons - a haven for Grey Morays and where we saw an absolute monster of a Scorpion Fish (I thought he was going to eat my camera!!). The week ended at Tie-Dye where we had begun. This time we spotted a couple of tiny Jason's. In all we did 23 very relaxed dives and had an enjoyable week away - thanks for the splendid weather (bar the swell of course!!).
Vis ranged from 10-25m and the temp was hovering around 18-19 degrees.
