Blue Bell Tunicates
The tunicates are forming a spectacular blue carpet around the entrance of caves and cavern, on the walls near overhangs and larger cracks. The water temperature has steadied and even gone up a degree, with visibility still 30m in places. Northern Arch was teeming with snapper and blue Maomao - forming a 20m high column as they moved down the wall. Hanging around as they spiraled down around you is always an awesome feeling. As we exited we caught a glimpse of a Bronzy patrolling out in the blue.
Carpet sharks seem to be a regular sight at the moment over the sandy patches around the Poor Knights. Our skipper saw the largest red lobster he'd ever seen and we came across a Spanish lobster wandering along a wall. A few giant selps are hanging around looking like a huge wormhole straight out of a sci-fi movie. Nudibranchs are plentiful and overall the start of the dive season is shaping up nicely.
So, if you've missed the diving feeling check out our calendar and book a space soon.
