The Film Crew

We spent 3 days out at Ocean Beach acting as support for a film crew recreating an incident where some dolphins protected some swimmers from a shark.

The story goes that 3 trainee lifeguards were swimming across the bay when a few dolphins started circling them. Then someone spotted a shark and the dolphins stayed close by until a rescue boat got the swimmers out of the water. The show should be on the BBC next September. We were there to offer support for the scenes where diving was needed to film the swimmers. As the weather was good everything went without a hitch and the crew went over to Brisbane to film some shots in Sea World.

We managed a few dives and on one in the bay we were checked out by a large long tailed stingray. We stayed close to the sea bed and avoided any confrontations. Round the corner there were some rocks and behind a mussel shell was a playful octopus. He was very possessive of his shells and held onto them when we tried to move them. The crays out at Bream Rock were abundant, but most were below 30m and well backed into their cracks. The visibility near the mainland wasn't great, but then we can't dive at the Knights all the time.
