Has Spring sprung?

A weekend trip out to The Knights saw some Spring like action.

Maybe the first signs of Spring were seen on the last overnight weekend trip. All over Meditation Wall in the Gardens there were Blue Bell Tunicates - a sure first sign that things are warming up :D

Just over the ridge I noticed something moving under the kelp. Ducked down and there was an Octopus - three years at The Poor Knights and that was No. 3 spotted there!! We'd just come back from Big Eye Cave where we'd had a little tour to the back - plans were being plotted!

Earlier that day we'd had a bit of a rough crossing, but started diving at Northern Arch. Craig came face to face with a 'chunky' looking Bronzy, but he hadn't taken his camera - this was a pattern over the weekend! Still lots of fish at the point and in the Arch too. The miidle dive was a quick look at a few swim throughs and the slab down at 40m off Landing Bay Pinnacle - great vis and a cute carpet shark swimming around.

More sneaking around Northern Arch and the little cave started Sunday's diving - another shark, but too far away. We then anchored by Red Baron Caves, but went for a dive over in Crystal Cave. At the entrace we paused for a moment and there on the sand was a Giant Stargazer! Jamie looked round and I took a photo with my imaginary camera. We both turned to Craig and, again, no camera!! Ho-Hum on into the cave. Just past the tree the sand started to move and there was a Stingray going into the cave. Swimming over it you can't help but think 'Steve Irwin', but we passed over and continued our exploration. All good and more gear needed to go any further for now. On our way out the Stargazer had moved and so too the Stingray. Right by the entrance there appeared to be a sandstorm heading our way! The Ray was 'cruising' under the sand straight toward us! On the safety stop there was even a Spanish Lobster walking up the wall - Great dive!! The last dive was a root around Red Baron Caves and a nice way to round of the weekend's diving and the sea had even calmed down for the journey home. Water temp 15 degrees.
