Having been in New Zealand for only a brief time, Des was one of the locals that played a huge part in our lives here so far. On Wednesday Des died and Tutukaka lost a well known character - Des to some, Macca to others. We will miss his tales of oil exploration, coastguarding and the underwater world. So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good-bye - he'll be missed, but not forgotten.

As most of you will be aware Des was a member of the Whangaruru Coastguard, which being a voluntary unit, would benefit from any donations.
