Hammerheads at The Poor Knights

Well, I never thought I'd be saying it, but we saw about 4 Hammerheads out at The Poor Knights over the last weekend!!

The first one we spotted was just out at the point of Middle Arch in about 25m. It was happily cruising along the wall and then off in a southerly direction. I was just thinking to myself that I really should turn my camera on and as if by magic it appeared in front of me. I managed to turn on thecamera and fire a shot - thankfully it turned out OK!!! There was something even bigger lurking in the blue, but couldn't tell if it was another hammerhead or maybe a bronzie!?

The next morning we were anchoring on the Southern side of Northern Arch when we spotted something just off the wall. Looks like a small shark - it was only about 1m long and cruising in 1m of water. Then it turned toward us and the hammer shaped head became obvious - WOW. During the dive 'Mummy' cruised by overhead in about 10m, but wasn't really hanging around.

All this shark action, plus the Bluebell Tunicates are out in force and the Poor Knights Lilly are just starting to flower. Water at 16 degrees still could do with a bit of warming, but spring is here in force.
