Return of Mirabilis

When I first came to The Poor Knights I thought that Jason's Mirabilis were are common sight - then they were gone with only the odd sighting!? Well, they are BACK......

It started at the weekend with a sighting of a large hydroid containing a dozen or so of the furry little nudibranchs at The Canyons. Pretty sure that's the last place we'd seen them in numbers - great!! A few dives at Northern Arch and Matt's Crack didn't provide any more sighting - maybe it was a one-off?

Then, today, we were doing a couple of Adventure dives. The first in Rikoriko we went straight down the middle and onto the sand. There on a small rock was a small Hydroid, on which was sat a small Jason's - mutliple sightings at varous sites. The second dive was in Barren Arch. Into the crack and down into the Arch. At 16m another small hydroid with a Jason's. A bit further on a larger hydroid with a larger nudibranch - then a bigger one still with eggs on the hydroid! All of a sudden they were everywhere, on the floor, on the walls and in larger numbers. More than I've seen in 3 years! Are they back? I hope so, they are stunning little critters!!
