December is looking pretty busy and we had two 3 day trips almost back to back and there was plenty to see.

Although the water still has a green tinge to it (it seems to be getting better day by day) there is plenty of stuff happening in the water around The Poor Knights Islands. Over the last week we've seen plenty of Stingray action - after their usual semi-absence over winter - with some big ones cruising around most dive sites. All the usual schooling fish are hanging out at their favourite spots, but one noticeable increase has been the number of Trevally around the bays. Although not back to their 1970's level (so I'm told!), they are still an impressive site as the large schools make their way across Maroro Bay, The Pinnacles and South Harbour.

Spring is the time of 'Love' and so too for the Nudibranchs of The Poor Knights - with pairs of Clowns, Gems and Fineline Tambjas covering the walls. The other Tambjas are also out and about - Vercos and Morosa looking fat and healthy. Hopefully the earlier profusion of Jason Mirabilis will continue for the rest of the season too.

Early summer has also seen a flurry of Carpet Shark activity - swimming across the kelp as well as their usual position on the sand (South Harbour has seen a high level of them swimming around). They still have their lazy moments with sightings in Middle Arch, Cave Bay and Matt's Crack. Morays too are increasing in numbers, with all species having been seen over the last few weeks.

The water is a bit cooler than last year, but the computer logged a good steady 17 degrees on the last dive. A few good days and we'll be over the magic 18 marker and truly into summer diving.
