Poor Knights Sevens

No, not a new rugby event, but 7 days out at The Poor Knights with seven photographers snapping away.

This trip has been running every year for about 30 years (way before I moved to NZ). This year the decision was made to stay out for all 7 days - without returning for food/water/land. It may have been a bit smelly, but the diving was sensational.

From Poor Knights Dive Photos

The water this year was 19 degrees, vis around 20-25m and fish still bountiful. We saw plenty of Stingrays at Tie-Dye and Middle Arches, Pink Maomao on the deeper sites, Bronze Whalers at Northern Arch, Cave Bay and Cream Gardens. The weather was calm enough to hit some of the more tricky sites - Phil's Pinnacles and Fred's Pinnacle were fantasic dives to be able to do. We also went to Bennett's Bommie (named after one of our Photographers no less!!). While we were there we also had a magical encounter with some Dolphins and Whales. Luckily one of the photographers was still in the water and got some amazing shots (will post when we can) as they cruised by the boat within touching distance.

With almost no swell and gentle winds we managed to cover both sides of the Poor Knights, get some good nights sleep, night dives each evening and lots of relaxed diving during the day. The food and water lasted well and next year we'll do the same - having done it once it'll be hard to say no!!

Thanks to all on board for making it a great trip - Quentin, Andrew, Franz, Richie, Charles, Mary and of course Kent.

Anyone else for a longer trip to The Poor Knights Wonderland??
